The pub was built at the Truwood Joinery Shop in County Monaghan, Ireland. Irish craftsmen used painstaking care and attention to every detail when designing and building the pub. Upon its completion, it was very carefully crated and shipped to the port of Boston then to Keene, NH. The pub was re-assembled by the very same craftsmen who built it. The dark woods and unique fixtures bring a piece of Ireland to America.
The atmosphere of the pub speaks for itself. Whether you are sitting at the rich mahogany bar, enjoying a pint in one of our many cozy booths you will feel the authenticity of the pub. Every stool, table and chair and all the artwork and lighting fixtures have made the long journey from The Emerald Isle. We feel this is the only way to experience and enjoy the true atmosphere and "craic" of an Irish pub. Waxy O’Connor’s opened its first location in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1997 followed by locations in: San Antonio TX, South Beach Miami FL, Foxboro MA, Miami River FL, Lexington MA and Keene NH.
We decided to use a bit of Irish folklore when naming the pub. We heard of an old tale about a candle maker who had been given the nickname "Waxy" because of the nature of his trade. The story goes that Waxy O'Connor lived in a flat above his candle shop. One night, there was a terrible raging fire in his shop but somehow he managed to escape without harm. When all the people in his town heard about what happened they couldn't believe just how lucky he was! Everyone started interchanging the word lucky with Waxy.
